Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 18, 2026
MagentaLine ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
Location Data
MagentaLine collects your device's GPS location to provide core navigation and moving map functionality. Location data is used to:
- Display your position on aviation charts
- Calculate distances and bearings to airports and waypoints
- Provide relevant weather information for nearby airports
- Log flight tracks (if you enable this feature)
Location data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly enable cloud sync features.
Flight Data
If you use our flight planning, logbook, or track logging features, we store this data locally on your device. This includes:
- Flight plans and routes
- Flight logs and track history
- Aircraft profiles and performance data
- Checklists and notes
Account Information
If you create an account to enable cloud sync or backup features, we collect:
- Email address
- Account credentials (securely hashed)
Device Information
We may collect basic device information for app functionality and troubleshooting:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
Crash and Diagnostic Data
To keep MagentaLine reliable, the app automatically reports crashes and unexpected errors to Sentry, our crash-reporting provider. A crash report contains a technical stack trace, your device model, operating system version, and app version. Crash reports do not include your location history, flight plans, logbook entries, or any personal content, and they are not used for advertising or tracking. Crash data is retained only as long as needed to diagnose and fix the underlying problem.
Aggregate Usage Metrics
To understand how many pilots rely on MagentaLine and which features matter most, our servers count how many distinct accounts use the service each day and how often each API feature (such as weather or traffic) is requested. These counts are computed from one-way-hashed account identifiers and stored only in aggregate — we do not build per-user activity profiles, we cannot reconstruct which individual used which feature, and none of this data is shared with third parties or used for advertising. Aggregate counters expire automatically after approximately 40 days.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve the MagentaLine app
- Enable navigation, weather, and flight planning features
- Sync your data across devices (if you enable this feature)
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
- Respond to your support requests
Data Storage and Security
MagentaLine is designed with a local-first architecture. Your aviation data, flight plans, and logs are stored locally on your device by default. We use industry-standard encryption to protect any data transmitted to our servers.
Downloaded aviation data (charts, airport information, procedures) is stored locally on your device for offline use.
Third-Party Services
MagentaLine may interact with the following third-party services:
- Sentry — crash and error reporting (technical diagnostics only)
- FAA Aviation Weather Center: To retrieve METAR, TAF, and other weather data
- FAA NASR/CIFP: To provide airport, navaid, and procedure information
- ADS-B Receivers: To receive traffic and weather data from devices like Stratux (data stays on your local network)
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Your Choices
You have control over your data:
- Location Services: You can disable location access in your device settings, though this will limit app functionality
- Cloud Sync: Cloud sync is optional. You can use MagentaLine entirely offline
- Data Deletion: You can delete your local data at any time through the app settings
- Account Deletion: If you have an account, you can request deletion here
Children's Privacy
MagentaLine is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
